I went down a bit of a rabbit hole today, exploring video creation and storytelling techniques. Have you heard of the Pixar method for storytelling? It’s a powerful narrative framework used by Pixar, the animation studio behind films like Toy Story and Finding Nemo. The method is centred around a simple but effective formula to structure a story:
1. Once upon a time…
2. Every day…
3. Until one day…
4. Because of that…
5. Because of that…
6. Until finally…
This structure sets up a character, their everyday life, a triggering event that changes their world, and the series of events that unfold as a result, ultimately leading to a resolution. It’s designed to create emotional engagement and a natural flow that keeps the audience invested.
I’ve been loosely implementing this method for my marketing campaign for Find A Biz Africa. I released the first episode, and while it’s not perfect, I’m happy with it as a starting point. As they say, progress over perfection! Now I’m watching videos and creating the script for next week’s episode. I’m feeling good about this strategy — so far, so good.
