Day 1: Building on the Foundation — 180 Days to Grow My Portfolio Career
Ever felt like a fish out of water at work?
You see others seemingly thriving in their chosen career paths, while you can’t shake the feeling that something is missing.
I’ve been there. This frustration led me on a journey of discovery, and I ended up earning four degrees along the way. I’ve been quite fluid in industries and roles, which at first felt disjointed, but now I see how each of those experiences is coming together to help me in building this new chapter. Then, I discovered the concept of a portfolio career — a flexible way of combining multiple jobs, skills, and passions into one cohesive career path — and for the first time, I felt truly seen.
Let me introduce myself. Hi, I’m Banke, and I’m building my portfolio career. I currently work a 9–5, but alongside that, I’m developing my consulting and coaching business, as well as building a platform for African business owners. It’s a juggling act, but I’m loving every moment of it.
To stay accountable, I’ve decided to document my journey daily. I’ll be sharing the top three things I do each day to build my portfolio career, along with lessons learned, successes, failures, and everything in between.
Today marks day 1. I’ve laid out my to-do list for the coming week, listed the people I need to contact, prepped for my meetings, and set aside time for learning. It’s a busy road ahead, but I’m excited to share it with you.
